"Fleeting Moments" is a fascinating photographic display showing every building in most areas of New York City, one after another, as the buildings were in 1999 and immediately after. This display is called "Fleeting Moments" since time and life moves quickly and a photograph only represents a moment in time and thus history. The display is of great interest to most people who instinctively first hunt for a photograph of their own home and then look for areas that are familiar. In the future, "Fleeting Moments" will be of great interest to historians who want a view of New York City in the 2000 period.

This display, presently consisting of over 60,000 photographs, is designed to be shown in government buildings, major civic building lobby's, museums or galleries. The photographic display can be printed so to fit on the walls, of a gallery or it can be made to order to fit the entire wall of a major hall or train station type structures.

Smaller pieces ranging in size from 20"x24" to 60" x 120" containing images from select areas, has also been developed. For example, areas such as Fifth Avenue from Washington Square Park to 96 Street, the entire East Village, West Village as well as one piece which contains a photograph of every property on every main crosstown street and major avenues (about 10,000 separate images) have been produced. Displays covering other areas is also possible.

Fleeting Moments installation can fill the lobby of a large institutional building...

... or it can be produced, in smaller sizes for galleries and homes...

...or it can be used to fascinate and entice people at museums.

The example below is just a tiny portion of the collection and depicts the east side of Smith Street in Brooklyn
in mid September 2001. Already, just a few years latter, the area has changed dramatically.

Background:  "Fleeting Moments" stems from Frank Didik's NYCinPictures.com (www.NYCinPictures.com) virtual reality New York project and his expanded GPS invention and system (www.expandedGPS.com) . In this project, a photograph of every property in the 5 Boroughs of New York City is currently being taken and then merged together so that you can, with the click of your computer mouse, see a photograph of any property in the City. Frank Didik has personally taken over 61,000 very high quality photographs of properties south of 59 Street in Manhattan and the project is still continuing. So far, these photographs are used by news agencies, travel and architectural book publishers, real estate agents and similar, on a regular basis. In addition to the current photographs, Frank Didik is in the process of matching the current photographs with those taken in 1936 of the City as part of a WPA project. Thus, it will be possible, to first see how the property looks today and then see how it looked back in 1936! This is truly amazing both from a historic perspective as well as an architectural and artistic perspective.
